fukodome rocks
04/01/08
kosuke fukodome made his debut with the cubs with a splash. he went 3-3 with a walk, including a 9th inning home run blast off eric gagme…er gagne that sent the crowd into hysterics. the cubs ended up losing, but he was real impressive. guy’s got a nice swing and i wish him the best over here.

bosox win mlb opener
03/25/08
a whole lot of chowder heads got what they wanted after traveling to japan to see the earliest opening day ever for major league baseball, a 6-5 win for the red sox over the a’s in extra innings. the a’s had the lead 4-3 in the 9th but closer huston street gave up a home run to new guy brandon moss setting up a not unfamiliar scenario with manny ramirez driving in 2 in the 10th that would lead to victory.
japanese fans couldn’t have been too happy watching their hero daisuke matsuzaka flounder on the mound for most of his 5 innings unable to lock in on the strike zone, but lucky for him and them, oakland couldn’t capitalize on having bases loaded against him in the 1st and 2nd.
i got up at 3:15 am pacific time to watch the game. despite the crappy result, it’s exciting to see baseball again. you can tell espn is using the japanese feeds for the game video. when you watch games over there it’s got a pedestrian rhythm, there’s never a crowd shot and the sound is all whacked out. i don’t think i’ll get up again for tonight’s game, though you never know, i may not be able to sleep anyway thinking how the a’s let that one get away and being reminded there’s a good chance that’ll be the m.o. for the season with that young team.

let’s go oak-land!!!
03/24/08
my a’s are getting no respect in japan leading up to the mlb opener there tonite. i hope they put a serious hurting on matsuzaka and show my friends in japan how it’s done.

detroit7 in san francisco tonite
03/21/08for those of you in the bay area, detroit7 is playing at the independent tonight as part of the japan nite tour. i’ve been hearing great things about the show so swing on by and check it out. maybe you can buy me a beer!

japan plays green ball
03/18/08
japan is creating an interesting way to help fight global warming; shorter baseball games. nippon professional baseball is committed to reduce the time of games by six percent, about 12 minutes from the average 3 hour 18 game. they believe it will reduce emissions from having to power the stadium and serving concessions to fans. i think it’s a cool idea.
