the world of cinema has lost another great talent. japanese actor ken ogata died of liver cancer on october 5th. known mostly to the western world for his powerful performance as the legendary novelist yukio mishima in paul schraders “mishima: a life in four chapters”, ogata was a powerhouse in his native japan. reccommended viewing would include “mishima: a life in four chapters“, “vengeance is mine” and “the ballad of narayama“.
one of my all time favorite actors has passed away. paul newman was the definition of cool to me. smart, saavy and good looking he made it all look easy. roles in such films as “cool hand luke”, “the sting”, “butch cassidy and the sundance kid”, “the towering inferno” and “the verdict” to name a few, showcased a wide range of characters he was able to portray. i was never a big fan of his interest in sports car racing but that was also a big part of his life. arguably, his greatest contibution was his charitable work. i remember when he started selling “newman’s own” salad dressing back in the day and being respectful of the fact that he turned profits over to charity. the success of that led to a wide range of products that bear his name, still with proceeds going to charity. all things come to end for all of us but we’ll miss you paul. a damned good guy.
man, what can you say about something like surviving a plane crash. must have been pretty terrifying. i can only hope both of these cats recover. getting serious burns on your body is nothing you want to have happen to anyone. it’s a long painful process to good health. personally, i’ll be putting out good thoughts for both of these dudes and feel bad for the others who died.
i won’t be posting much in the foreseeable future. i’m completely burnt out on the web, information and opinion. i spend way too much time online and i’m tired of it. off to read some books, get outside and away from the computer. there’s plenty of stuff to peruse in the archives if your interested.
onetime funny man andy dick continues down his path of self destruction. he was arrested in murrieta, ca for sexual battery against a minor (he pulled down a teen girls top) and for posseion of drugs (pot and xanax). this dude is really killing it. he’s been pissing outdooers and on people and making a general mess of himself in public for a while. dude needs help. he’s 42.
great advice from ira glass (this american life) on how to tell your stories. yes you, all you vloggers and bloggers. and yes, obviously, i’m the one who should listen most, so save all your wisecracks.
newest sensation on youtube i guess. it’s annoying, but i also think its pretty clever and smart.
