bush throws

03/30/08

bush got out there tonight and threw the ceremonial first pitch at the nationals new stadium for the real opening day of baseball. ol’ w got a less than enthusiastic reception. his interview in the booth later in the game with jon miller and joe morgan was subdued too. maybe w’s having feelings of regret about things. <pause> nahhhh….

wow, a real one two punch type of day the clintons. senator leahy of vermont calls for clinton to drop out of the race and the union leader of manchester, new hampshire calls both hillary and bill backstabbing phonies. ouch.

p1_canseco_getty.jpg

to call jose canseco a meatball is an insult to perfectly good food we enjoy. look, i get it. he told the truth about steroids, though light years after his time in baseball. he’s desperate for attention. he’s a bone head. all that’s well and good but who give’s a rats ass anymore? the steroid era is no secret to anyone who enjoys the game. we all have seen it for what it was. we all have accepted the fact that it happened, that our favorite players may have done steroids and i feel most of has have moved on. why give schmucks like this any more print than they deserve? jose is all about jose, otherwise he would’ve brought up all this shit 10 years ago.

no fan of condoleeza rice in the realm of her political views and actions, but have much admiration for her speaking out on the subject of race. i think she has some great points and insight.

herb peterson, inventor of the mcdonalds egg mcmuffin passed away tuesday at 89 years old. i suppose that’s about the only thing i might still consider eating at a mcdonalds. well, except for the fries. chu-hi loves him some golden delicious fries a few times a year.

bosox win mlb opener

03/25/08

sp_athletics01191.jpg

a whole lot of chowder heads got what they wanted after traveling to japan to see the earliest opening day ever for major league baseball, a 6-5 win for the red sox over the a’s in extra innings. the a’s had the lead 4-3 in the 9th but closer huston street gave up a home run to new guy brandon moss setting up a not unfamiliar scenario with manny ramirez driving in 2 in the 10th that would lead to victory.

japanese fans couldn’t have been too happy watching their hero daisuke matsuzaka flounder on the mound for most of his 5 innings unable to lock in on the strike zone, but lucky for him and them, oakland couldn’t capitalize on having bases loaded against him in the 1st and 2nd.

i got up at 3:15 am pacific time to watch the game. despite the crappy result, it’s exciting to see baseball again. you can tell espn is using the japanese feeds for the game video. when you watch games over there it’s got a pedestrian rhythm, there’s never a crowd shot and the sound is all whacked out. i don’t think i’ll get up again for tonight’s game, though you never know, i may not be able to sleep anyway thinking how the a’s let that one get away and being reminded there’s a good chance that’ll be the m.o. for the season with that young team.

well, it’s over 4,000 deaths officially in iraq for us armed forces. nico pitney designed this mosiac for the huffington post honoring the fallen and reminding us who still beats the drum for war.
