thin lizzy - whiskey in the jar

07/31/07

i loved these guys when i was a kid. they had a real down to earth rockin’ vibe that i’ve always liked. i still think this is one of the best versions of this old irish classic (though the guitar solo is edited out for tv here). something about phil lynett’s voice makes me wanna drink a few jameson’s and cry with a friend before kickin’ someones ass…

former 49er’s coach bill walsh dies at 75

07/30/07

wow…another high profile passing. bill walsh who is a legend in football but almost god-like here in the bay area, passed away from leukemia at age 75. because of him, san francisco is one of a handful of teams you think of when you think about great dynasties in sports. the sf chronicle has a detailed account of his life here. condolences to the walsh family and the niners orginization and fans.

sweeney todd with johnny depp

07/30/07

this is the poster for the december release of “sweeney todd”. directed by tim burton, starring depp, alan rickman and sascha baron cohen. looks great…count me in. my only worry is burton’s “planet of the apes” had a very cool poster and the movie was pretty awful. hopefully that won’t be the case here.

i mentioned just last week how much i used to like tom snyder’s show and woke up to find out he died yesterday at age 71 of leukemia. sad news. snyder was a pioneer in television and did a lot of interesting and entertaining interviews that we can always go back and watch. condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and fans. youtube has a bunch of snippets and full interviews you can peruse here.

you have to click on the picture to make it bigger to appreciate the level of insanity of this red sox fan. took it with crappy cell phone cam. you get the idea though.

no good

07/30/07

this was the illustration that accompanied this article in the san francisco chronicle today about peoples reactions to animal cruelty. quite possibly the most inappropriate illustration ever. looks like the woman is shoving her tongue down the dogs throat.

gwynn and ripken in baseball hall of fame

07/30/07

great day for baseball in honoring 2 of the best that played the game. caught a bit of both their speeches and reminded me that both are classy guys. hard to see any of the young bucks staying in one place like they did. maybe jeter but not many others. anyway, a giant guzzle o’ the chu-hi for two of the games best ever.

polysics - kaja kaja goo

07/30/07

no better rally cry than “kaja kaja goo”! who cares what it means…it’s a great song. the video is a favorite of mine. it features video snippets of the legendary “chindogu” (useless tools) that you may have seen in the “101 useless japanese inventions” book.

tillman

07/30/07

the death of pat tillman (pictured here with his brother kevin) continues to take insidious twists and turns. the scenario of him having been murdered seems to be a possibility. medical reports say the bullet grouping in his forehead suggest the shots could have been fired as close as 10 yards away. this would lead to suspicion that it goes beyond a matter of friendly fire. the young man interviewed seems to recall the shooters being up to 50 yards away though. when will this man’s family learn the truth and be able to move on with their lives?! ugh…
