edwards endorses obama

05/14/08

in a somewhat surprise move, john edwards has endorsed barack obama for the democratic nominee for president. edwards had been non-committal and indicated he’d wait till all the primaries were over until he’d give an endorsement, if any. it seems like things must be over in his eyes to come forward, even this late in game. i certainly can’t hurt after clinton’s mega-victory in west virginia which did little for her but highlighted obama’s perceived weakness with white middle to lower class voters. could this be the democratic ticket? wouldn’t be a bad choice, but i like the idea of jim webb as well. in any event, welcome aboard john.

this is a great clip of bill o’reilly from his days at inside edition. such a great illustration of the illusion that television is and the facade it’s personalities present.

obama will be president

05/08/08

it’s an exciting time to be in america. we are on the cusp of a historical landmark in our country. despite the antics and delusions of hillary clinton, the democratic nomination has been sealed by barack obama. he is poised to be this nations first african american presidential candidate. no small feat in a day where racism is still alive and well in this country.

it’s fairly apparent to me that he will be this nations first african american president. the tides have shifted and he is on course to ride a giant wave to the nations highest office. there is hardly a scenario that john mccain has a chance in the general election. this movement obama has created is not pie in the sky, kumbaya, type of rhetoric. it is literally a changing of the guard. it’s not so much a rejection of everyone else, but a clamor, a lust for a generation to take the helms of government at it’s highest levels.

my guess is most supporters of senator obama do not expect miracles in washington should he win the presidency. however, to have an individual who, for most of us under 50, has experienced this country through a similar filter feels right. he’s a man who understands the world they way 40 year olds do, and those 40 year olds kids see him as the hippest neighbor on the block. he gets it. he understands the multicultural life many live. he understands the streets (better than most politicos). despite his recent fortunes monetarily, he understands the struggles of raising a family. the perception is that he’s real, and i think that there is legitimacy in that feeling.

i almost feel like his presidency could harken back the call to service this country was founded on. silicon valley and other new corporations already follow this model; let the young guy with the great ideas run the show and get him out in a few years before his ideas get stale in an age where everything is evolving at rates never experienced in human history. obama’s lack of resume in washington really illustrates the same thing. he has a different idea about organizing, building coalitions to achieve goals, working with others and finding results. we’ll see if that actually translates in washington if he wins, but the idea of it sure is exciting and considering the hoodwinking and bamboozling america has suffered at the hands of the current administration, it sure couldn’t hurt to give the man a chance to see what he can accomplish from his cult of personality.

i look forward to it all.

bernie ward going to the big house

05/08/08

well, ward’s plea of guilty to distribution of child pornography is going to guarantee him 5 years in prison, minimum, possibly 9 at the long end. however, his plea lets 2 other counts be dropped, possibly saving him years. listening to the news on the radio today, they said he seemed in good spirits prior to the formalities. his lawyer explained that ward basically maintains some sort of innocence in that it was research related (the porn), but wants to spare his family and friends the hurt that may come from a prolonged trial.

i really don’t know how i feel about all this. i wasn’t a huge fan of the guy, but enjoyed his god talk show for a couple of years (i drive a cab on weekends and would listen to kill the dead time on sunday mornings). the guy’s done a lot of good things for people. but those transcripts of some his communications with the dominatrix were pretty disturbing. i’m open minded about what people do in their private lives, but connected with the kiddy porn, i had to take a step back. it’s a little too coincidental.

hopefully the guy will figure out whatever has got him to where he’s at while he’s in prison and come out a better person.
